TAP for Transition Hangout: NTACT:C Tools to Support School Completion

Dr. Matthew Klare will provide a walk-through of selected tools in the approved NTACT:C School Completion Toolkit, specifically the Core Tools for Dropout Prevention for academics, attendance, discipline, and dropout. Dr. Klare will provide guidance on using these tools as part of a root cause analysis of factors that impact school completion rates and demonstrate how these tools can inform regional plans.

Pre-work: Prior to the hangout, please review the NTACT:C School Completion Toolkit and the Evidence-Based Practices for Improving Graduation Rate and Decreasing Dropout professional development package (T227).                                      About the guest facilitator: Matthew Klare has over 30 years of experience developing educational assessments, conducting data analysis, and developing and delivering technical assistance to support school completion at state and local levels. Dr. Klare is currently a technical assistance provider and project evaluator at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, working on the National Technical Assistance Center on Transition: the Collaborative (NTACT:C). Prior to this, he was project coordinator for the National Dropout Prevention Center for Students with Disabilities at Clemson. He has also worked at AIR in Washington, DC and at ACT in Iowa City, IA, where he was instrumental in developing the Work Keys assessments, Explore Program, and ACT’s computerized testing system. With NTACT, he has developed various data analysis tools, including an early warning intervention system (The Risk Calculator) and the Transition Gradebook. At IDC, Dr. Klare provides support on graduation and dropout, as well as on data tool design and implementation.
